Track and Field or Athletics in Ontario continues to grow for para athletes. One of the unique characteristics of the sport is the variety of events offered as well the age demographics it brings to the competition. Athletics Ontario with partnership of it’s club members and MSO’s provide athletes training, coaching and the opportunity to participate in competitions throughout the province at sanctioned indoor and outdoor meets. The rules of Paralympic Track and Field are almost identical to those of the Olympics.
Track Events: athletes have the opportunity to compete in 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 5000 meter individual races as well as the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay races.
Throw Events: athletes have the opportunity to compete in shot put, javelin, club throw and discus
Jump Events: athletes have the opportunity to compete in High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump
Road Events: athletes have the opportunity to compete in 5km, 10km, Half Marathon, Marathon

To have athletes in the most competitive environment, athletes are classified based on their abilities that coincide with their anatomical function level.
- Ambulatory (Cerebral Palsy, visual impairments, intellectual impairments, amputees)
