13 Medals for Team Canada – Athletics at 2018 Commonwealth Games

The 2018 Commonwealth Games took place in Queensland, Australia from April 4-15, 2018. The Athletics portion of the event has concluded, and we are excited to announce that Team Canada has earned 13 medals (G – 3, S – 6, B – 4).

Of the 13 medals earned, eight (8) of those were awarded to Ontario athletes.

Alysha Newman, earned a Gold medal in the Women’s Pole Vault final! Her third attempt jump of 4.75m was good enough to claim the gold as well as a Commonwealth Games record. Mohammed Ahmed, took home a silver medal, in both the Men’s 5,000m and 10,000m. A number of huge performances from Pierce Lepage in the Men’s Decathlon led to a points total of 8,171, and earned him the silver medal!

In the field, Tim Nedow and Brittany Crew both took home bronze medals in the Shot Put. Also in the field, Shawnacy Barber earned a silver medal in the men’s pole vault with a jump of 5.55m. Last, but not least, on the track, Aaron Brown was upgraded to a silver medal in the men’s 200m, with a time of 20.34 seconds.
