Melissa Bishop Chases Her Dream in the 800m at the IAAF World Championships
Earlier this week, Eganville’s Melissa Bishop made history in the women’s 800m when she broke the Canadian record inside Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium. Melissa’s time of 1:57.52 was exactly two seconds faster than her previous personal best and it officially made her the fastest of all qualifiers. The finals happen on Saturday.
Shawn Barber Wins Pole Vault Gold!
Shawn Barber was the only pole vaulter to clear 5.90m on his first attempt, and that was good enough for gold in a star-studded field inside Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium. Shawn’s medal was, at the time, Canada’s fourth of the competition, but it was our country’s first ever in pole vault.
