What: A weekend of education, training and competition opportunities in para athletics for athletes, coaches and officials to network, learn and put skills into practice
Who: This is an open event to all ages!

Info for Try-it participants
Do you or someone you know have a disability or impairment? Did you know that individuals with physical, vision and intellectual impairments can participate in para athletics? Para athletics offers a wide range of events, including track events (100m – 5km), road races (10km – marathon), jumping events (high jump & long jump), and throwing events (shot put, discus, javelin, and club throw). At the Try It session current athletes, coaches, and representatives from the various disability and sport organizations will be there to welcome you, help you discover the sport and answer any questions you may have. No experience is necessary, and all equipment will be provided

Info for coaches
Do you coach a para athlete and want some hands-on track side mentorship with experience para athletics coaches? Or are you looking to learn more about para athletics to support para athletes in your club in the future? The AO Para summit is designed to provide you with hands on learning opportunities with coaches and para athletes in a live training environment. You can spend time working with wheelchair racing coach Lisa Myers, seated and ambulatory throws coach Ken Hall and/or ambulatory track coach Craig Blackman (including experience with vision impaired athletes). An information session on “Becoming Para Ready” in your club/coaching practices, as well as an overview of para athletics as a whole will be provided.
There will lots of time for questions, networking and even trying out wheelchair racing and seated throws chairs yourself!
Friday, October 1st:
- 3:00pm – 7:00pm open training session – trackside mentorship (note: throws training session will start at 4:30pm)
Saturday, October 2nd
- 9:30am – 12:30pm: open training session – trackside mentorship
- 2:00pm – 4:30pm: open training session & coaches try it session
- 4:30pm – 6:00pm: networking, Q&A, info sessions
Info for officials
In addition to officiating at the AO Para Athletics Invitational competition, officials will be provided with a training session on the key WPA rules and regulations and other considerations specific to para athletics.
