The track community is in mourning with news of the passing of Andy Higgins. An Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame Inductee, and the coach who established the University of Toronto’s Track Club back in 1971, he was the coach of David Steen, who brought home the first ever Olympic medal in the decathlon. He coached in the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics.
Andy was the coach who wrote and delivered the first formal coaching education/certification program in Canada, back in 1970. In 2001, he was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, as a coach.
As Carl Georgevski said “GREAT Coach, AMAZING Educator, INCREDIBLE Man.”
Arrangements and more details to come.
