AO 2017 Cross Country Championship Preview

Get ready to run!

Our Annual Cross-Country Championship is taking place this Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Morrison Meadows in Bracebridge, ON. We have almost 900 athletes registered to compete on this beautiful course.

Important note regarding parking: Please take note that you can only do drop offs at the site of the Cross-Country Championships. Parking will be located just west of the championships by the JD Lang Activity Park. Shuttles will be available all day long to and from the Championship site.

Joshua Desouza: Newmarket Huskies, Athletics Ontario award winner of the Youth Boys Distance Category, Silver in the 3000m at Commonwealth Youth Games

Anne Forsyth: Speed River Track & Field Club, Commonwealth Youth Games 1500m finalist

Dakota Goguen: Newmarket Huskies, Finished 3rd at the 2017 OFSAA Cross Country Championship

Abdullahi Hassan: Phoenix Athletics Association of Ontario, Athletics Ontario Award Winner for the Midget Boys Distance Category

Ed Hayfron: Phoenix Athletics Association of Ontario, Placed 6th in the Men’s Atlantic Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 800m

Trevor Hofbauer: Speed River Track and Field Club, first Canadian man to finish the Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Leslie Sexton: London Runners Distance Club, first Canadian woman to finish the Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Kyle Smith: Blue Devils AC, Canadian record holder in the 4x800m, previous AO staff member

Thomas Witkowicz: University of Toronto Track and Field Club, Commonwealth Youth Games finalist in the 3000m

 

Additional Important Information

Distances:
Please note the distances offered for the 2017 AO Cross Country Championship this year. Girls and Women will be offered slightly longer distances in our effort to get male and female distances equalized. Full details available in the technical package.
  • U14 Girls: 2 km
  • U16 Girls: 4 km
  • U18 Girls: 5 km
  • U20 Women: 6 km
  • 20+ Women: 8 km
There are no changes to boys/men distances.
Masters (30+) will run 5km.
Waivers: Clubs that have power of attorney may sign off for all of their athletes while others will need to sign off on their waiver when they pick up their bibs. Waiver forms can be found on the championship website.

Parking
There is NO PARKING on site at the race venue at 1177 Fraserburg Rd or along Fraserburg Rd.
Please park at JD Lang Activity Park (approx 1 km from venue) and take the shuttle bus. The shuttle bus will run continuously on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Round trip should be approx. 10 minutes.
Participant drop off on-site will be available when traffic conditions allow it. Please limit your drop off to 2 minutes max to avoid congestion.
Pets
No dogs are allowed on site at the race venue. Please leave your pets at home.

Hot food, bottled water, coffee and tea will be available on site.

Directions
From the South:
Follow HWY 11 North to Cedar Ln/Muskoka District Road 37 in Bracebridge. Take exit 184 from HWY 11 North.
Follow Cedar Ln to Fraserburg Rd/Muskoka District Road 14.
Turn LEFT
Shuttle Parking is on the left at JD Lang Activity Park before you cross HWY 11.
From the North:
Follow HWY 11 South to Taylor Rd/Muskoka District Road 42 in Bracebridge. Take exit 189 from HWY 11 South.
Turn Right on /Muskoka District Road 42.
At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Cedar Ln.
Follow Cedar Ln to Fraserburg Rd/Muskoka District Road 14.
Turn Left.
Follow Fraserburg Rd.
Shuttle Parking is on the left at JD Lang Activity Park before you cross HWY 11.
