OVERVIEW
Over 2014, the Athletics Ontario (AO) Board has undertook significant work and research in setting the structure and ground work for an accountable, responsible and impactful Athletics Ontario. There is still a need for the organization to add interested professionals to our professional, volunteer Board of Directors.
The Board provides strategic leadership to the organization by committing to excellence in governance while supporting AO’s mission, vision and values for optimum achievement of its goals and mandate. It is responsible for the highest level of decision-making, legal authority, and is accountable for AO resources and activities; communicating the organizational vision to the membership and athletics community; and defining the parameters within which the organization will carry out its work.
It is hoped that each new member will bring with them skills required to lead and guide the organization. The 9 member board will be comprised of a team of leaders with combined experiences in governance, accounting, HR, legal, business management, marketing, fundraising, communications, and IT. We currently have a priority for individuals with accounting, HR, project management, and legal expertise. All members should have a personal passion for volunteering and making a difference in the athletics community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Board members serve a two-year term and are eligible for re-election for two additional consecutive elected terms.
Directors meet in person a minimum of 4 times in the Toronto area, in addition to evening teleconference meetings, when required. Board members are also required to participate on one or more of standing committees: i.e., Finance Committee, Governance and Nominations Committee, Compensation/HR Committee, Marketing and Development Committee, Competitions Committee, etc. Committee meetings are typically held monthly or as required.
Board members serve on a volunteer basis and without remuneration, except for travel and accommodation costs in relation to Board members’ duties.
Successful candidates must be or become a member of Athletics Ontario within 10 days of election.
