The early spring, snowy morning did not stop nearly 10,000 athletes from participating in the oldest race on the continent, hosted in Hamilton, Ontario – the classic Around the Bay 30km and 5km.
As we see continual growth in our membership, competing in this race in the AO/OMA Trillium Running Series were over 130 members. This was the 4th event of the eight races selected for this year’s series.
Congratulations goes out to all of the AO and OMA members who participated! A special congratulations to our top three athletes, ranked on age-graded percentage. In the 5km event, first on an age-graded basis was Michell Gill of Oakville, second Alex Drover of Kingston, and third Seanna Robinson of Toronto. In the 30km race, three females took the top age-graded percentage and times: Mengistu Emebet of Mississauga was first, followed by Robin Todd of Cambridge and an exciting tie for 3rd on percentage, but was translated into age-graded time and resulted in Krista Duchene taking third.
The next of our series is the lululemon Toronto 10k on June 15th, our inaugural AO Club Championship! This event sold out within one day!! Congratulations to those of you who got your registration in early, we look forward to seeing you at the event! Following this race are still 3 more opportunities to compete in the series; the Longboat Toronto Island 5km in September, and the Run for the Toad and Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, and Half Marathon, both taking place in October.
Please note, this is our first year holding the Trillium Running series in this format, and though we are striving for perfection, we are also learning! If there are any errors, comments or concerns that you wish to share, or if you do not see your name on the list of participants, please feel free to contact Sheryl Preston with any questions or corrections noticed.
