Athletics Day in Canada (made possible by the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative) is a ground-breaking series of events set to debut nationwide in June to celebrate the sport of Athletics, including track and field, Para Athletics, cross country, and road, mountain and trail running. Designed to promote inclusivity and community engagement, these events target underrepresented populations, particularly newcomers to Canada and athletes with disabilities, while welcoming participation from all walks of life.

From coast to coast, the festivities will spotlight the diverse opportunities and interests within the sport of Athletics. Whether it’s sprinting down the track, conquering rugged trails, or competing in Para-Athletics events, there’s a thrilling experience awaiting every participant.

AO is thrilled to partner with Fast and Female, the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club and the Ontario Cerebral Palsy Sports Association for two fantastic community events.

Fast and Female is a registered Canadian charity committed to empowering girls through sport, physical activity, and education. They aim to build confidence and leadership skills by hosting a wide range of national and local events and programs, both in-person and virtual. As a recipient of the grant, Fast and Female will be hosting a “Built to Run, Jump, Play: Girl’s Try-It Day” for girls aged 8 to 14. Designed to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for girls from diverse backgrounds to explore track and field activities, the event will be hosted at the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Valley Play fields. The event is fully subsidized, with no cost to participants.
