Athletics Ontario is pleased to announce the 2015 AO Hall of Fame inductees. The induction ceremony will take place at the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites, during the Athletics Ontario Awards Gala, on Saturday September 26, 2015.
The following are the 2015 HOF Inductees:
Jeff Adams (Athlete) – Jeff competed at six consecutive Paralympic Games from 1988 to 2008, winning a total of three gold, four silver, and six bronze medals. Jeff’s medals were achieved in distances of 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and as a member of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
Katie Anderson (Athlete) – bronze medalist in the 60m Hurdles at the 1998 World Indoor Championships and bronze medalist in the 100m Hurdles at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Dennis Fairall (Builder) – In his 26 seasons with the University of Windsor Lancers, Fairall’s teams have captured 23 Canadian University Cross Country and Track and Field Championships (18 track and field, 5 cross country), in addition to the 43 Ontario University championships (36 track and field, 7 cross country).
Graham Hood (Athlete) – Graham was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 1992 and 1996, and won the gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, MB.
Robert (Bob) McFarlane (Athlete) – Bob was Canada ‘s flag bearer at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, England. He was 5th ranked in the world in tbe 400m in 1947 and held on to the Canadian record in that event from 1947 to 1961.
Paula Schnurr (Athlete) – Paula competed for Canada at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games in the 1500m, and reached the semi finals at the 1992 Games, finishing 8th in a personal best time of 4:04.80.
Doug Wood (Athlete) – Doug held the Canadian indoor (5.65m) and outdoor (5.61m) pole vault record for over 20 years. He won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in 1991 and represented Canada in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
George Shepherd (Athlete/Builder) – George was a member of the Canadian team in the 1958 and 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the 1960 Olympic Games, competing in the 440 yard hurdles. George held the Canadian record from 1958-1963 and finished 6th at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. George was also a stellar organizer, working on the Toronto Telegram, then Toronto Star Indoor Games and was instrumental in helping setup the indoor meets that spun off from the Toronto Games to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Ottawa.
Randy Starkman (Builder) – Randy was a journalist, with the Toronto Star from 1988 until 2012, covering Olympic and amateur sport, and during that time covered 12 Olympic Games. Randy was well known for his support and coverage of track and field athletes.
