More Details:

The activities at this year’s Athletics Ontario Junior Olympics are going to consist of stations where we will teach kids about the different events and skills in track and field.

Activities will be designed around track and field events but will focus on movement skills that are applicable to all sports and a range of physical activity settings. All participants will have the opportunity to participate in javelin, shot put, discus, sprinting, and horizontal jumping events that will be run by trained Athletics Ontario instructors.

Each activity can be adapted so that it is at a suitable level of difficulty for each child participating. For the Junior Olympics, no track and field experience is required. This event is all about showing kids how exciting this sport can be and the possibilities that it can create. Experienced Track and Field athletes are encouraged to join us. We look forward to working with them to continue to build upon their foundation of skills.

At this track and field day, we have access to the entire rubberized track and turf fields at Birchmount Stadium. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in sprinting events and relays using the same equipment that professional track and field athletes use on a daily basis. For example, this will include starting blocks, relay batons, and real track and field hurdles.

In regards to Covid-19, screening will be conducted prior to the start of the event at a check-in station at the facility entrance. Our instructors will have their masks on at all times and all activities will be conducted outdoors. Equipment will be sanitized using disinfectant sprays and
wipes.
