Athletics Ontario’s Combined Events Championships & Prep Meet to be held this Saturday February 7

Athletics Ontario’s Combined Events Championships & Prep Meet is set to take place at the Toronto Track and Field Centre this Saturday, February 7, beginning at 9:00 am with the Weight Throw on the field and 10:00 am on the track with the 60m Hurdles for Combined Event athletes. This meet is co-hosted with the Flying Angels Academy, and has attracted experienced international competitors including Gavin Smellie (Flying Angels), Dontae Richards Kwok, Khamica Bingham (Brampton TC) and Project Athletics teammates, Shai-Ann Davis and Crystal Emmanuel, all of whom competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Events to Watch

Event: 60m Open Men

Event Highlights: Gavin Smellie (Flying Angels) and Dontae Richards Kwok, both members of the 2014 Commonwealth Games team are the top 2 seeds, and will be facing Bismark Boateng (York University TC) and Tremaine Harris.

Scheduled Event Time:  Heats at 12:10 am and Final at 2:00 pm

Event: 60m Open Women

Event Highlights:  Khamica Bingham (Brampton TC) is the top seed and will be facing her 2014 Commonwealth Games teammates, Shai-Anne Davis and Crystal Emmanuel, both members of Project Athletics.

Scheduled Event Time: Heats at 11:40 am and Final at 2:00 pm

Important Note:  For safety reasons, access to the competition floor during the weight throw (start at 9:00am) will be limited.  Athletes in the following events will be permitted to enter the competition area and warm up while the weight is in progress:

  • Open Men’s HJ  (10:00 am start)
  • All Combined Eventers for 60m Hurdles  (10:00 start)  8:30 to 9:30 check-in window
  • 1500m walkers (10:15)  8:45 to 9:45 check-in window
  • 1200m  (10:35)  9:05 to 10:05 check-in window
  • 60m Hurdles  (10:45)  9:15 to 10:15 check-in window

The track athletes must stay off the oval and infield and restrict their warmups to the straightaway track.  The high jumpers will be escorted to the high jump area.

Other athletes, both in track events and field events will be required to wait outside the competition area until the weight has been completed (ca. 10:00 am). Please convey this information to any coaches or athletes affected.  Your cooperation will be much appreciated.
