Amongst the most influential coaching duos in Ontario back in the early 1970’s, Beryl and Harry Kerrison coached with the Upland Harriers Track and Field Club from 1971 to 1975. Between them, they mentored no less than five Olympic athletes, including long jumper Joan Hendry, and distance runners and Ottawa Hall of Fame members Glenda Reiser and Penny Werthner.

Harry’s specialty was middle distance running, while Beryl focused on sprints and jumps. Eventually, the Upland Harriers joined other local clubs in forming the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club.

In 1971 Harry was also named Executive Director of the Canadian Track and Field Association, and in 1973, they both received the Coaching and Honour Award by Sport & Fitness Instructor magazine.
