Canada Summer Games Trials Preview

This coming weekend the Canada Summer Games trials for Team Ontario will be taking place at Toronto Track and Field Centre. This event will be the prelude to the Canada Summer Games taking place on August 15th to August 21st. The event will consist of men and women from Ontario participating in different events. There are some athletes to look out for at this event which will be highlighted in this quick preview.

The women’s 100m race is shaping up to be a great one. Robyn Larkan who finished in 1st place at the U20, Open & Para Championships, is going up against top sprinters such as Trinity Miller and Kathryn Manor, who finished 2nd behind Robyn. Additionally, Kathryn will also be participating in the 200m race. With that being said, here are some more events you don’t want to miss!

The 100m men’s race is also looking to be a good one, with Desmond Fraser who finished fourth at the U20, Open & Para Championships going up against Jadon and Jalon Rose who finished behind Desmond at the previous meet. We are also excited to see Nicholas Williams compete in this event as he finished 3rd at the U20, Open & Para Championships. All four of these athletes will also be competing in the 200m, so stay tuned for these two exciting events.

The Women’s 800m race has Halee Knelsen competing, with a personal best time of 2:07.44. Also included in this race is Sadie Jane Hickson who finished 3rd at the U20, Open & Para Championships with a time of 2:06.13. Once again, it will be a joy to see two highly competitive para athletes, Tai Young and Brett Babcock go up against each other in the 200m para wheelchair event alongside Shawn Courchesne.

In the men’s high jump we have a top leaper competing, Thomas Becker who has a personal best jump of 2.13m. He will be going up against another top leaper Hans Lefleur who has a personal best jump of 2.11m. Finally, women’s long jump features Leah Jones, who finished first at the U20, Open & Para Championships with a jump of 6.03m. Peace Omonzane will also be competing in women’s long jump and she is a great matchup for Leah, as she finished in first place at the U20 women’s long jump event.

With much anticipation for this event it’s looking to be an exciting weekend for track and field. We encourage everyone to come out and support these athletes this weekend, as this is an important qualifying event for them. Good luck to all the athletes who will be competing this weekend!
