George Shepherd was a member of the Canadian team in the 1958 and 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the 1960 Olympic Games, competing in the 440-yard hurdles. George held the Canadian record from 1958-1963 and finished 6th at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. George was also a stellar organizer, working on the Toronto Telegram, then Toronto Star Indoor Games and was instrumental in helping setup the indoor meets that spun off from the Toronto Games to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Ottawa.
