IAAF World Indoor Championships ReCap
Athletics Canada named fourteen athletes to represent the country at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, March 17 to 20. The team featured 2015 World pole vault Champion Shawn Barber, 2015 World Championships silver medallist Brianne Theisen-Eaton, and 2014 World Indoor bronze medallist Nicole Sifuentes.
Ontario athletes who competed and their results are listed below (Name / Event / Hometown):
Men
Mobolade Ajomale, 60m, Richmond Hill, ON
- advanced to the men’s 60-metres semis with a time of 6.67 seconds. In the semi-finals he ran 6.60 in a heat that saw Jamaican Asafa Powell set a World Lead of 6.44. Ajomale fell just outside of the final and placed tenth in this, his first major senior World Championship.
Philip Osei, 400m, Toronto, ON
- just missed advancing in the men’s 400-metres with a clocking of 47.00 seconds in heat 2.
Mohammed Ahmed, 3000m, St. Catherine’s, ON
- grabbed a spot in the 3000-metres final with a time of 7:53.66
Shawnacy Barber, Pole Vault, Toronto, ON
- 4th in the pole vault with a jump of 5.75m
Tim Nedow, Shot Put, Brockville, ON
- finished seventh in the men’s shot put final with a best throw of 20.23-metres
Women
Crystal Emmanuel, 60m, Toronto, ON
- 16th overall. Run of 7.23s in the semi-finals.
Gabriela Stafford, 1500m, Toronto, ON
- fifth in the second heat of the women’s 1500-metres in 4:11.46.
Sheila Reid, 3000m, Newmarket, ON
- 12th overall in the 3000m with a time of 9:19.67
