Ottawa – A clever integration of comprehensive camera coverage and live streaming will enable a global viewership of the 2013 Championships later this month in Moncton, New Brunswick. Athletics Canada and Bell Aliant have partnered to offer the most complete live coverage in the history of the Canadian Track and Field Championships.
“Our community spoke and we listened,” said Mathieu Gentès, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Services at Athletics Canada. “That’s why we are so excited to announce that the entire 2013 Canadian Championship will receive the live stream treatment, available around the world on multiple platforms.”
“This is a terrific opportunity for Moncton and for Bell Aliant to showcase a national calibre event around the world in real time,” says Andre LeBlanc, Vice President, Residential Services at Bell Aliant. “Live streaming and broadcast on Community One, our exclusive FibreOP community channel, is really the perfect vehicle for the Canadian Track and Field Championships while highlighting Atlantic Canada.”
The live stream will include all championship events, including special off-site events, through a unique video player which will allow viewers to jump from one event to the other. Six cameras will enable viewers to choose between field events, track events or the Bell Aliant Community One interview feed.
“One of our objectives in planning these championships was to maximize the use of the latest technology to enhance the viewer experience, whether they are with us in the stands or anywhere in the world” said Moncton Organizing Committee Chair Doug Robertson. “This exciting partnership with Bell Aliant, coupled with some of the other features we are incorporating in the production, are helping set a new standard for coverage of the sport”.
Gentès adds, “In 2012 we introduced the world’s first concept of including Twitter handles on Olympic Trial bibs. Integration of social media continues to be an important communication strategy, this year we are very excited of integrating live Twitter interaction with viewers into our live streaming plans.”
“Viewers will have the opportunity to watch any event they choose, interact with us in real time, and if the competitor is on Twitter they can go as far as giving them a follow, asking them a question or simply sending them a shout out; how cool is that!,” said Gentès.
The Canadian Championships, in Moncton, New Brunswick, June 20-23, serve as the selection trials for the IPC World Championships (Lyon, France, July 19-28), the IAAF World Championships in Athletics (Moscow, Russia, August 10-18), and the Jeux de la Francophonie (Nice, France, September 6-15).
