Passing of Brent McFarlane

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Brent McFarlane.

Brent made his mark on the sport through his coaching and educating. He was Canada’s Head Track and Field Coach at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He also coached on 33 National teams, including at four Olympic Games, three Commonwealth Games, three Pan American Games, and three World Championships. 37 individual athletes from his training group were on National teams, producing 40 National Champions and establishing 22 Canadian records.

In 2007, Brent was recognized as one of 50 University of Waterloo Alumni for his outstanding commitment to the University at the 50th Anniversary Alumni Awards.

In 2009, the first Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame Inductees were announced, a class of which included Brent, for his tremendous achievements as a builder in our sport.

Brent will be greatly missed by all in our sport.

A funeral will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Chuch, 173 Lourdes St., Waterloo, Ontario on Saturday, April 13th, at 10:00 AM, with reception to follow at the Parish Hall.
