Premier Doug Ford announced today that Ontario will be lowering social gathering limits in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa to 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors as of Friday, September 18th. Premier Ford included in his announcement that the new rules apply to “unmonitored social gatherings and organized public events” held on private property or in parks.
In regards to Athletics Ontario, this means all members in these three regions MUST abide to the new social gathering limits during any practice or training session. In simple terms, practices may have a maximum of one coach to 24 athletes while outdoors, or one coach to nine athletes while indoors. At all times, members must continue to maintain physical distancing with those outside of their social circle, and a mask or face covering must be worn when social distancing cannot be maintained (Unless otherwise outlined in the National Back on Track Guidelines or Athletics Ontario Return to Sport Addendum).
Based on the recent announcement, the Ontario XC Meet #1: 5k Festival, scheduled for September 27th has been cancelled.
More upcoming competitions currently listed on the event schedule may also be impacted, future event changes or cancellations will be communicated as they occur.
Athletics Ontario is dedicated to the health and safety of its members, coaches, officials, and stakeholders. We encourage you all to continue to play your respective roles in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
