Athletics Ontario Joins the Movement with Respect Group Inc.
Athletics Ontario (AO) announced in November 2019 that it will become Respect Certified. Athletics Ontario has joined the movement with Respect Group, a forward-thinking organization founded by former NHLer turned victims’ rights crusader Sheldon Kennedy to deliver training to equip employees with the education and skills needed to prevent bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD) in the workplace.
In our revised Membership Policy, we will be requiring that all Coaches complete the Respect Group’s program “Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders,” before completing their renewal on Trackie. Please learn more about, and register for, the program here: https://athletics-canada-al.respectgroupinc.com/
The Respect Group Inc. has an additional program, the Parent Program, designed to help define a standard of behaviour for all parents and create a more rewarding, safe and respectful environment for everyone involved. Learn more here: https://www.respectgroupinc.com/respect-in-sport/#parent-program
Please contact us if you have taken this program already, through another sport.
Keeping Girls in Sport
Keeping Girls in Sport was created to help everyone who coaches girls, even parents, understand how girls develop physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. When we understand how and why girls play we can help every young athlete stay in sport, reach their potential, and remain active long after the competitions end. Finally becoming the next generation of inspiring female coaches and role models.
The course covers the evolving story of girls in sport, why girls quit or aren’t participating, mechanic, energetic and relationship injuries and prevention, how to create safe, strong and supportive environments, keeping girls healthy, key themes for keeping girls in sport, and coaching elements for ways to keep sport fun and engaging.
We encourage our members and clubs to commit to helping girls stay in sport, reach their potential and remain active, long after competition, and becoming the next generation of inspiring female coaches and role models.
