Talent Takes Centre Stage at 2021 U18 Provincial Championships

The 2021 Outdoor Championship continued this past weekend with the completion of the U18 Provincial championships. The two-day event ran from August 7th to August 8th at the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University. The weekend highlighted a plethora of young talent showcasing impressive runs, jumps and throws. 

The Women’s 100m and 200m featured a two-time winner as Speed Academy’s Riana Green found herself atop both podiums. In the 100m she edged out teammate Nia Grose with a time of 11.98s. Grose finished second with a time of 12.33 and Brampton Track Club’s Charlize Fraser finished third with a time of 12.36. In the 200m, Green continued her impressive weekend by posting a blistering 24.83s edging out Fraser and Brampton Racers Kiara Webb. 

On the Men’s side of the Track, Speed Academy continued to rake in the medals. Christopher Morales found himself a two-time winner on the weekend claiming gold in the Men’s 200m and the Men’s 400m. In the 200m, he outran the pack to a time of 21.76. In the 400m, Morales continued his fast ways, finishing atop the podium with a time of 47.82. 

Julia Tunks was another two-time winner on the weekend. She took home gold in both the Women’s Shot Put and Women’s Discus events. In the Shot Put she posted a great distance of 14.88m. Over in Discus, she threw a 49.59 in the finals, beating her nearest competitor by over eight metres. 

Over at the jumping pits, the competition produced another two-time winner on the weekend. Peace Omonzane, of the Flying Angels Track Club, took home gold in both the Women’s Long Jump and Women’s Triple Jump. In the Long Jump, she recorded a distance of 5.96m while in the Triple Jump she led a trio of Flying Angles with a distance of 12.33m.  Tolu Akinduro brought home silver with a distance of 11.98m while Asia Philips rounded-out the Flying Angels podium with  a distance of 11.53m.
