The United Nations Association recently hosted a Pan Am Celebration at the Nepean Sportsplex in Ottawa. The event was a fun, educational and athletic experience that successfully brought together over 160 kids!
Events:
- Celebrated athletics and competition. Played Basketball, baseball, soccer and Track & Field.
- Learned about different cultures- groups were assigned a Pan Am country and had to research and represent the culture of that country throughout the day. Lunch was a collection of foods from the countries of the Pan American pallet.
- The track & field component was a RUN JUMP THROW ACTIVITY. We had four athletic stations, each station had a Run- Jump- Throw- Coach demonstrating and coaching a fundamental skill associated with the activity. Participants were coached first then they mastered their new skills through practice and competition.
- Four Athletic Stations- Sprinting, Standing Broad Jump, Rope Javelin and Shot Put.
Using track and field inspired games, activities and skill challenges, Athletics Ontario and the Ottawa Lions delivered an outstanding RUN JUMP THROW activity. The fundamental skills the participants learned will provide a strong foundation for athletic development in all sports.
