Update: Ontario Lockdown and Stay at Home Order

Effective Thursday, January 14, 2021at 12:01 a.m., the government is issuing a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for essential work. This order and other new and existing public health restrictions are aimed at limiting people’s mobility and reducing the number of daily contacts with those outside an immediate household.”

The Ontario Government’s full announcement can be found and reviewed using the following link: https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/59922/ontario-declares-second-provincial-emergency-to-address-covid-19-crisis-and-save-lives.

Outdoor group gathering limits have now been reduced to 5 people, which should not include contact with those outside of an immediate household, and a minimum of 2-metre physical distancing must be maintained at all times.

AO is still waiting for confirmation from our ministry of sport consultant on how the new regulations will affect sport in Ontario.

The topic of further implications on training restrictions for Athletics Ontario members will be discussed on tomorrow’s weekly town hall meeting with AO coaches, officials, and club associates. Updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
