Wrapping Up the U18 and Open Provincial Championships

It was another hot weekend inside the Toronto Track and Field Centre. With over 1,000 event entries, we had a fantastic turn out and another great meet.

Two new records were set this weekend. The first was a new national record, set by Brittany Crew in the women’s shot put. Her first throw of 18.36m broke the new pending national record she set last weekend of 18.30m. Then just minutes later, she did it again, throwing 18.81m, which ended up being her best attempt, and will remain as the new national record.

Also in the field, Kalista Elliott, an Unattached athlete, competed up an age category in the U18 Women’s Triple Jump, and set a new U16 Girls provincial record. Her final attempt of 11.80m was her best jump of the competition, earning her the new record title, as well as a silver medal in the event.

On the track, Stephen Davis of Laurel Creek T.F.C. set a new U17 record in the Men’s 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.21 seconds. The previous record was 8.23 seconds, set by Dwane Higgins back in 1998.

Many other athletes had incredible performances as well, some earning multiple medals. It was a fantastic event for everyone.

We’d also like to give a special thanks to Project Athletics, York University Track Club, and Variety Village Track club for providing us with so many great volunteers, which truly helped us to stay on time and run a great event.
